Prompt Response is an examination of image-making, ownership, culture, and the nature of art in the incipient era of AI-generated image. Consisting of one master work and the 20 images that constitute it, it's both a response to the self-referential prompt seen in the work as well as a prompt (i.e. quick) response to current events, produced as rapidly as possible after expanded access to DALL-E began to make headlines.
Each piece in the series was generated using the prompt "The Prospect of AI-Generated Images as Art" with the intent of examining DALL-E's own self perceptions on the status of its outputs as artwork.
The promptness/quickness of the series' creation was itself intended as a performative exploration of the internet era's fast-moving, stimuli-saturated, attention-leeching culture, where fantastical images can now be cheaply produced at the click of a button. What does this do to the creator? What does it do to the consumer? And are their roles converging into one?
This was the first AI work I ever minted back in 2022. Explore the collection in full here.
